Katie's Wedding Part I

This past weekend my little sister Katie got married in Dallas to Jeremy. While the wedding itself was wonderful there was some stress leading up to the big event especially in travel area. I flew down on Thursday so I could spend some extra time with my family. When I arrived in Denver (flying United), my flight to Dallas had been cancelled. Luckily I was able to get on a Frontier flight just 2 hours later. My luggage however stayed on United and I spent an hour once I got to Dallas tracking it down.

Thursday afternoon I hung out at the hotel pool with Katie, and two other bridesmaids - Kara, Katie's friend for 20 years and Megan one of her sorority sister and fellow elementary teacher. We worked on assemblying the programs while waiting for my aunt and uncle to come in from Madison, WI. They had weather related issues at the airport (tornado warnings). Once they arrived we had a nice late dinner at Mi Cocina.

Friday morning I met up with Stephanie and her son Drew who was 3 months old that day. I had seen Stephanie when I had come down for Katie's shower and she was 9 months pregnant so it was great to meet him. What a sweetie!

That afternoon we all went to get pedicures and some of us also got our eyebrows waxed. My aunt got her first pedicure ever and enjoyed the whole Texas salon experience. The nail techs had a hard time believing us when we said Katie was our sister.

Meanwhile Mike and Paul were having drama of their own getting to Dallas. They were on the same flight schedule as me and once again the flight from Denver to Dallas was cancelled. All flights that day were booked until 8 pm. So, Mike and Paul flew to Austin, rented a car, and drove to Dallas and ended up missing the rehersal at the church and the first part of dinner.

Just Another Day

For those who wonder what a stay-at-home-mom does all day....

6-9 am
  • Get up at 6:20 - alarm went off at 6:10 but listened to NPR for a few minutes
  • Feed the critters their breakfast, get the garbage can out to the curb, water the flowers inside and on the front porch, start the first of two loads of laundry
  • Try to do about 20-25 minutes of strength training exercises while watching the Today show
  • Paul wakes up, help him get dressed, we both eat breakfast. He watches Dragon Tales on PBS while I shower and get ready for the day.

9-12 pm

  • Go to story time at Barnes & Noble - nice way to start the week. Paul looks at books, gets a snack and stamp and plays with Thomas the Train. I get to chat with other moms - today a friend from MOPS was there.
  • Try to stop at the bank; however due to an electrical outage the bank is in lockdown mode.
  • Back at the house switch laundry and change the sheets on our bed. The realtor shows up to pick up her staging items.
  • Prepare and eat lunch with Paul.

12-3 pm

  • Get ready to go to swim lessons and go to swim lessons. Paul did ok for his first day.
  • Back at the house get out of wet clothes and put Paul down for a quick nap.
  • Bring the garbage can in and check on emails.
  • Deal with mother-in-law and prescription drug mail order service in regard to Grandma's meds.

3-6 pm

  • Wake Paul up and take him to speech therapy.
  • Pick up dress from seamstress - had to get it taken up for Katie's wedding.
  • Make rice krispie treats with Paul - he burns his arm on the pot which doesn't really bother him until he's in the bathtub.
  • Give the critters treats and make dinner - mac&cheese

6-9 pm

  • Eat dinner with Paul - he ate an entire pear and played with his macaroni
  • Clean dishes and fold laundry while listening to Paul whine about poo.
  • Give Paul a bath - due to his burn on his arm he didn't want to be in the tub long.
  • Talked to Diane on the phone while Paul calmed down by watching a little Noggin.
  • Brushed teeth, read a Bearenstein Bear book and put the munchkin to bed.
  • Drank a glass of wine and watched a little Jon&Kate +8

9 pm and beyond

  • A little reading and time online, get ready for bed and do it all again tomorrow

Simple Pleasures

Yesterday I got to use my citrus reamer for the first time since I bought it back in March while making lime bars. I got it from Williams-Sonoma one of the stores I dearly wish we had in Montana. On the other hand, I think I might spend too much money if one was readily available without shipping and handling. I used the tiny grate side of my cheese grater to create lime zest, so maybe I'll need to invest in a microplaner next time I make it to the big city.

Welcome to my blog!

Hello,

I've entered the world of blogging to put down on paper all of the thoughts that swirl through my mind throughout the day. Of, mommyhood will be the primary topic but I'll also talk about books I'm reading and other stuff going on in my life.
